I think it was about 2007, I found myself on a Sunday afternoon in a Kabbalah class in Beverly Hills with my roommate Paige. We were in the introduction classes learning more about the Demi Moore & Madonna hyped, spiritual movement. In the row next to us was the most fabulous woman, with long chocolate brown hair, big beautiful brown eyes, a chic fur vest and the most stunning stacked layers of gold bracelets. In the midst of Cartier and gorgeous gold with diamonds was a little red string, a Kabbalah tailsman, with a stunning diamond evil eye charm on it. We were obsessed.
Nearing the end of class, the woman came to the front of the class and began explaining what the Kabbalah red string bracelet was for and the proper way to use and wear it. She also told us a story about her evil eye charm. A friend from Greece had sent it to her and it was her favorite piece of jewelry.
It was that day that I became obsessed with the evil eye symbol.
What does an evil eye symbolize?
Belief in the evil eye—“mati”—dates back to Greek Classical antiquity, to at least the 6th century B.C. when it appeared on drinking vessels. Many philosophers, including Plato, would tell the history behind the evil eye. Plutarch’s scientific explanation stated that the eyes were the chief, the source of the deadly glares that were supposed to spring up like poisoned darts from the inner recesses of the person who had the evil eyes. It is a curse or legend believed to be cast by this malevolent glare, usually sent to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury.
In order to protect oneself from the evil glares from another person, you wear an “evil eye”. An evil eye is a talisman or amulet, designed in the shape of an eye, traditionally in the colors blue or green, that indicate spiritual protection. These talismans or evil eye “repellents” come in different shapes and forms as pendants, bracelets, earrings and rings. Or can be hanging in a glass bead form over the main door or entrance of someone’s home to keep the hearth protected.
It’s almost used as a shield to protect any jealous or negative wishes that are sent towards you, when you are unaware. The evil eye symbol mainly promises to keep you safe and sound, which is the most important thing when it comes to fulfilling your dreams. There is nothing more beautiful or mystical than evil eye protection, as its rich in history and experience in keeping people across the world safe and secure.
HOW TO WEAR AN EVIL EYE
In terms of jewelry, the Evil Eye should be worn as a bracelet or a necklace. In fact, this mighty symbol is typically implemented as an evil eye charm, as its powers get fully dispersed when the symbol gets materialized. A part of most cultures in the world, the Evil Eye was always believed to have a realigning effect on negative notions. The numerous designs of this ancient symbol are always paired nicely with healing crystals, giving each Evil Eye seeker an opportunity to enhance the protective properties.
I decided to use the evil eye in several of my jewelry designs because any woman who is focusing on her spiritual growth, needs a layer of spiritual protection. Love Ashlina Jewelry was created to give women an extra boost of manifestation power in creating a beautiful life. When you’re thriving, you’ll need to make sure if anyone is secretly sending a glare your way, you are fully protected.
