Fashion inspired Friday: pretty patterned sofas

One thing I think about often is how very not bold when it comes to fashion. I'm pretty simple and classic but I do like to get a little crazy with jewelry, shoes and bags. However, when it comes to home decor I love being bold and lately I am just loving crazy fashion inspired patterned sofas. This is a surefire way to keep your home fashion forward and fabulously fresh. Here are a few I'd like to try out myself...

I'm sure we all remember this gorgeous magenta David Hicks patterned sofa from the pages of Domino...its always been high, high on my LUST LIST...

bliss' in the kitch...show stopping tile

What I wouldn't give to have the courage to use gorgeous Mediterranean tile in this teal and black lace pattern. It's the perfect mix in this overly modern, clean lined, black and white kitchen. Lace is big this season in fashion and I love how this look really is fashion forward. I could could up a storm in this sexy kitch'. Right now its all about the exotic tile...

MALACHITE MAJESTY

There is nothing that I love more than some drama in design. This month's issue of Lonny magazine really brought new inspiration to my little decorista eyes. The Tony Duquette feature is absolutely incredible and oozing with drama and opulence. His signature pattern, Malachite, is on full display here in his grand estate with leopard prints, velvets, black and white flooring and all the deliciousness a decorator could ever dream of...

If this desk is not my dream desk for my home office space, well then I don't know what is. This photo makes me want to put a tassle on my desk drawer stat. It's always the little details that say the most.
This bathroom is just beyond. All the elements of malachite in this space are absolute perfection. I am always a fan of repeating a pattern over and over. It really adds a special finishing touch that makes a space look decorated on purpose...It's just soooooo good!

GAGA FOR GINGHAM...

Recently, I have had a HUGE crush on gingham. Sure enough, my dear friend Katie Armour of Matchbook Magazine gave us a peek insider her fabulous apartment filled with gingham. I am a huge fan of repeating a pattern all over the home and I think she did the perfect job of pulling off the look without overdoing it. Totally impressed. Oh, seeing this sweet apartment is making me so impatient, I am so ready to move into my new pad NOW! I am addicted to redecorating a new space...who's with me?

MORE WAYS TO ROCK OUT GINGHAM...
a gingham screen is always a good way to go...
or this pair of gingham wingback chairs from Ethan Allen...
a lavender gingham backsplash in the kitchen is too adorable...
or how about some decorista pink gingham french style chairs...and this gingham valence over the bed works wonders too!

Styleicious Sunday: hopelessly in love with houndstooth

As I am preparing my apartment for my family to arrive this Christmas I am putting the finishing touches on a few things...
including my desk chair. Originally I was going to cover it with black and white striped velvet (so very parisian...) part of me is having second thoughts. I am having a houndstooth moment and I don't know if I can recover. I am just a smitten kitten with its chic-ness in fashion and in decor.
This chic woman just makes it look fabulous + so does an all white living room like below...
large scale houndstooth is pretty bangin' too...

so chic, no? should I do it?

secret of domestic bliss #48...use wallpaper creatively

Not everyone is a fan of wallpaper but most of you know this particular decorista LOVES her some wallpaper. What I love is when people use wallpaper in super creative ways to make dramatic statements in their home. I was a smitten kitten the moment I saw this foyer. How incredibly stylish is that? Always be brave and use fabulous pattern in not-so-fabulous spaces. It will give your home that extra something special...

secret of domestic bliss #47... decorating with flowers

I don't know if many of you will remember this but remember the days when Laura Ashley reigned queen. I can remember as a young girl my mother decked out my bedroom with head to toe floral motifs.    I quickly found myself loathing floral decor...until recently. Is it just me or is the flower making a comeback? Lately I have been seeing beautiful floral motifs everywhere and layered up. Maybe its just that Spring is on its way and flowers are in full bloom! Either way, I am loving the ways of incorporating florals into decor. (like this room with blooms)Whether it be through art, wallpaper, fabrics, linens, or even just a simple bouquet...I am so ready for spring to be in full bloom!

If you have ever checked out Tricia Guild's work, then you will see what I mean, this woman is all about decorating with flowers. Her stuff is spot on!
