secret of domestic bliss #43...colorful couches

When working with clients, most people shy away from color, but in the end always want a little more. It's really normal to be reluctant to dropping down a pile of cash for a bright and beautifully colored sofa.   I get it. I really do. However, in light of some recent decor discoveries, I have found that some of the most stunning spaces are using bright, colorful sofas and they look fantastic. I am starting to think that sometimes, it might be just what you need to make your home stand apart. I'm smitten over some of the couches with completely gorgeous hues. In my next apartment, I might just have to get one.

I even semi think this super vintage + retro sofa looks perfect in this uber hip space...

Domestic Bliss... dita von teese at home Instyle Mag Feb 2011

Could you imagine walking in to the Los Angeles home of Dita Von Teese? I wouldn't expect anything other than over the top girlish glamour and charm. I have always liked her look and her effortless Hollywood charm. Her happy pink kitchen is absolutely adorable to me especially the black and white checkered floors. I spot some vintage Barbies in there, too. How about her gorgeous mirrored vanity? What a sweet indulgence...and the perfect touch is the silver + gray wallpaper that graces the bedroom walls. Another fabulous indulgence...the super plush silver padded headboard. At the moment, I think my favorite is her beautiful teal wallpapered room with a gorgeous fireplace. Oh so lush and very much Hollywood glamour! I love this LA Woman.

Style-icious Sunday {parisian glam panache}

There is something so enchanting about parisian glamour. The decor is so timeless, elegant and lovely.
Ornate gold pieces and light blues are often found in places like this. I love when the look is mixed with a bit of modern too... It can really take it to another level. I guess I'm smitten with the look.

The weather in LA is incredibly gorgeous today, but I'm craving for an afternoon of tea and old black and white films...preferably the ones set in Paris...with subtitles.
Hope you all are enjoying your Sunday!

office space of the day... fashionista fierce-ness

gorgeous chair + fashion books + fashion art + fashion collage =
domestic bliss

absolutely LOVING this office space of B. Jones, a reader + fellow blogger. such a fashionista this gal is, i adore her! Especially when she said on twitter that The Decorista inspired this workspace.
gotta love that!
I love the bohemian meets thrift store meets fashionista vibe it has going on. Gorgeous.
for more of her beautiful office space see her fashion blog.

how to decorate like a NYC socialite {Lauren Santo Domingo}

NYC socialite + fashionista Lauren Santo Domingo shows us how its done...Her manhattan apartment is equal parts woodsy, vintage inspired and glamorous. She has the hottest look for 2011 in decor and she knows it. In her recent article on Vogue.com she coaches us how she created her fabulous spread, one amazing item at a time.
Her beautiful office space is killer and oh so office space of the day worthy.
Feast your eyes upon her collection of shoes and with closet doors like those, who wouldn't kill for this personal space? I myself am also crazy about that inlaid bone chair.
as usual, organized sparkling gems call out to me...
I love that she used this retro vibe wallpaper with fantastic art prints and a collection of subdued graphic pillows...very, very chic. as every manhattan socialite should be.

needing. wanting. loving. {PEACOCK CHAIRS}

I know in most parts of the country and even most parts of the world, the weather is awful and cold. However, here in LA, its perfection at a sunny 73 degrees and I am loving every second of it. Sitting on the patio sipping my morning coffee, I found myself dreaming about the perfect patio chairs I spotted in this latest issue of Lonny
Perfectly peacock chairs absolutely rock my world and I am dying to get my paws on a pair asap!
They are essential on any chic LA girls patio for weekend mornings.

They can be fabulous for lounging around with your girlfriends or even at your office space...
I would prefer mine in black but sunny yellow never hurt anybody. I think she's cute, no?
I'm also fond of the mini version in the dining room...

secret of domestic bliss #42...MIRRORED PERFECTION

Creatively using mirrors can be the ultimate decorating tool for your home. Mirrors can work a variety of wonders for your dwelling space. For example, a perfectly placed mirrored screen can soften a harsh or unsightly corner. Mirrors can also add architectural style and influence, in addition, an oversized mirror can brighten up the darkest of spaces. Take a look at the gorgeous dining room below with an oversized mirror set behind the table...the light looks breathtaking, don't you think?

Wall color wonderful!

Deep, saturated jewel tone hues are going to be all the rage this coming year. I have always been a lover of gorgeous color on walls, but this beautiful shade of teal had me swooning for more. This lovely London home is gorgeous. Elements of traditional are jazzed up to perfection... notice the gorgeous green fabrics on the chairs. The gold lighting in the library literally took my breath away, so creative and chic.

How beautiful does Colette Van Den Thillart look in her london digs? She is the creative director for
NH Design. Her taste is absolutely incredible... a well deserved House + Home feature!

Masculine chic: a perspective on sofas

After talking over design with the males in my family over the holidays, I quickly learned that men love interior design, too. In fact, I never knew the men in my family had such decor opinions. As we looked through some of the design magazines I was devouring over the holidays, I learned this...
men absolutely go crazy over chesterfield sofas
I love masculine chic decor, it definitely inspires me as well as anything feminine and these gorgeous buttery leather chesterfield sofas are just winning me over.

The Art of Living...living room layout ideas

I love the layout of this Windsor Smith living room. It's kind of perfection in my eyes.
The placement of furniture is always key in the living room.
You always want to create a focal point (something beautiful to gaze at) while at the same time making sure there are ample relaxing & conversation spaces. It is a learned art form, but here are some I like to keep around for inspiration.

I'm also kind of crazy about this home. The irregular living room floorplan is always a challenge but I love how everything is blended together so effortlessly. The odd brown leather chair over by the shelving is genius for extra seating. Something else of fabulous note is the daybed with open sides so that the space isn't broken but creates a flow, such a great idea.

secret of domestic bliss #41... wallpaper in your kitch'

So I happen to think wallpaper is always key in home decorating. Beautiful wallpaper can really give your home exactly what it needs to be magazine worthy, which is what we all want right?
Today as I was giving decor advice to a client, I realized how awesome wallpaper can look in the kitchen. My first instinct for this swanky bachelor pad was wallpaper in the kitchen. Then I realized how chic it can be. So, please don't ever be afraid to bang out your kitch' with some gorgeous patterns.

In the PINK...Pantone IT color of the year 2011

So over the moon excited about the IT color of 2011...
The Decorista's signature color!
Happy Happy Joy. I love pink, oh so much!
Ladies...tell your husbands the news.

A Color for All Seasons
Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it.

My design idol, Mary McDonald, shows us exactly how its done. (obviously, she is my hero!)
decorating with pink can be so daunting, especially because you don't want to over-do femme...
but these lovely rooms will make you think twice!
I was so ahead of the game when I got my 2011 planner. Perfectly pink!

secret of domestic bliss #40... unexpected mirrors

Placing mirrors around the home is more than you would think. Mirrors give the illusion of enlarging a space as most of us already know. However, we tend to forget that mirrors also lend to the aesthetic quality of a well decorated room. Irregular, odd and unexpected mirrors are so key in creating a fabulous space. I love the look of non-traditional looking mirrors.
So chic and so right up my decorista alley!

my style formula...Eclectic Glamour

Inspired my Sketch42's Nicole & her fabulous post about her style formula,
I decided to share mine with you...I define my style as
ECLECTIC GLAMOUR

one part feminine romance...
one part bold & decadent color (like Miles Redd)
part tradition & sophistication (like Mary McDonald)
a hint of shine & gold (like Kelly Wearstler)
and tons of vintage glamour (like Woodson & Rummerfield)!
and just a teeny bit of trendy
its totally hard to define...because I really love it all!

Today I'm loving toile

I don't know what it is about this terrifically english pattern, but I have always been so attracted to its sophisticated look. On wallpaper, as curtains, or even just a small pillow...toile adds just a beautiful touch in home decor. I have even loved some rooms completely decked out in toile from wall to wall.
So very east coast meets country house chic. My personal obsession is with the more modern versions as shown here, the cute little tori mellot yellow toile wallpapered kitchen has always stolen my heart.
loving it!
